I have a sterling silver locket that has started to smell terrible.?

August 18, 2009

I’ve had it for around a month now, and it stinks like crazy. It’s sterling silver and handmade. My problem is that it’s not waterproof so I can’t wash it or anything. It smells sort of like a garlicy smell but I don’t wear it when I’m eating and when I’m not eating, I put it in a box. The same thing has happened to my purity ring so I had to take it off. How do I take the smell away? I’m afraid of ruining my locket since it cost me $130 of my own money. I’ve been saving up since October to buy this.

Thanks. =)

Most sterling silver is waterproof? That’s the whole point of buying sterling silver, and not fake silver, so it won’t turn green when it gets wet.

But you can try jewelry cleaner.
Sometimes it’s a spray or you soak it in container with the cleaner.

Either way there’s no way the smells going to stop if you don’t wash it somehow.

have you gotten it wet? It may be rusting, try taking it to a jewelery store for some cleaning.
